ThinkWorks Celebrates Science Museum's Birthday by Volunteering
May 8th, 2008
Ithaca, NY - When Ithaca's ScienceCenter announced a community building day to mark their birthday, ThinkWorks jumped at the opportunity to participate. Volunteers at Build Day hammered, dug, and painted the museum's large outdoor exhibits in preparation for the summer month's.
The company's participation in Build Day was in keeping with its corporate culture. "We try to stay involved in our community as individuals," said ThinkWorks COO Laura Colosi, "But this celebration seemed like a great chance for us to take part as a corporate body. ScienceCenter is one of the most innovative things Ithaca has to offer, and we're proud of our neighbors."
ThinkWorks CEO Derek Cabrera connected the company's day of volunteerism with its vision. "We'll need several types of thinking skills in the future. One of the 21st Century Thinking Skills is Scientific Thinking, and ScienceCenter provides incredibly rich experiences to this community. We wanted to wish them a happy birthday by lending a hand today."
ScienceCenter is the world's first community-sponsored science museum. Through creative exhibits, the museum "promotes learning through interaction." Members of their Advisory Board have included scientific luminaries such as astronomer Carl Sagan, and the museum's Egg Drop is a highlight of Ithaca's cultural calendar.
