Kindergarten teachers and students learn 21st Century Skills
April 13th, 2009
Fairfax, VA - As they return to their classrooms from Spring Break, kindergarten teachers in this school district will be ready to teach students to think. Over 200 teachers are currently taking part in workshops sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools.
The kindergarten teachers will collaborate to infuse thinking skills into their existing lessons and units. Dr. Laura Colosi, the Vice President of ThinkWorks and facilitator of this week's workshops, has worked with many of the attendees. "This is a great group of teachers," Colosi said. "These hands-on sessions will give them a chance to share best practices when it comes to teaching thinking skills. They've already been using the Patterns of Thinking method in their classrooms. Now they can come together and discuss what worked."
Located in the Washington, DC, metro area, Fairfax County Public Schools is the nation's 12th largest school district. Commentators consistently rank the district among the nation's top public schools.
