Controlled Fire
~1.8 Million B.
According to Roman mythology, the Gods gave the task of creating man and the animals to Epimetheus and Prometheus, member of race of huge people who lived on the Earth before man, called the Titans. After making all of the animals and man, Epimetheus was unsure how to give man dominion over the animals, so Prometheus went up to the heavens, lit a torch from the sun, and brought it down to man. For this act of theft, the god Jupiter bound Prometheus to a rock, where birds would peck out his liver for eternity. The true story of how humans came to control fire is unknown, although the earliest evidence of controlled (or "domesticated") fire dates to between 1.8 and 1 million years ago.
